In honor of the United States’ 250th birthday, join the Museum at Eldridge Street's Deputy Director for Education and Accessibility, Scott Brevda, for a special program on the Lower East Side’s revolutionary history.
In this lecture, we will explore the history of the American Revolution in the Lower East Side, identify the war’s few remaining traces in the area today, and unravel the story of the Rutgers and Delancey families. We will see how the war and divergent revolutionary politics of two of New York’s leading families would forever alter the neighborhood’s streetscape and help shape its future over the following two and a half centuries
Currently, Scott plans & leads the intensive CASA program, creates new educational content & public programs, and develops new access programs to ensure that the Museum engages all audiences. He was a Senior Educator at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and has an M.A. in History.
